Some sessions just hit a little differently.
I photographed their oldest son as a newborn, and somehow it feels like that was just last week. Since then, I’ve gotten to photograph his first birthday, Christmas memories with their family, and now… he’s a big brother.
I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to that.
There is something incredibly special about having families come back to me again and again. You meet them during one chapter, watch their family grow and change, and then one day you realize just how much life has happened between those photographs.
This newborn session was one of those moments for me.
From Newborn to Big Brother
One of the sweetest parts of this session was looking at big brother and remembering him as the tiny baby in front of my camera years ago.
And now here he was with his baby brother.
That full-circle feeling is hard to put into words. As a photographer, I spend so much time thinking about what these photographs will mean to my clients years from now. But returning families give me the chance to look back, too.
I get to remember when their oldest was the one being snuggled and fussed over. When he was the newest little person in their world.
And then I get to photograph it all happening again.
Yeah. I’m mushy about it.
The Magic of Returning Families
Being trusted with a newborn is special on its own. Being asked to come back for the next birthday, the next Christmas, the next baby? That means more to me than I can really explain.
There’s a comfort that develops over time. They know me. I know them. And instead of every session feeling like we're starting from scratch, it feels like we're picking up where we left off.
That connection is one of my favorite parts of being a newborn and family photographer in El Paso.
I don’t just get to photograph what a family looks like right now. Over time, I get to create this visual history of who they’ve been.
The tiny newborn.
The first birthday.
The family at Christmas.
The big brother.
And now, the newest baby.
Another Chapter, Photographed
This session was beautiful, but what made it special wasn’t just what we created.
It was everything that came before it.
It was realizing how much their oldest has grown. It was seeing this family complete in a way they hadn’t been the last time they were in front of my camera. And it was knowing that years from now, these photographs will sit alongside images we created when their story looked completely different.
That is why returning clients will always have such a special place in my heart.
I get to watch your babies grow up.
Sometimes, I even get to watch them become the big kids.
And apparently, I’m going to be emotional about it every single time. 🤍
